Our logo!

This is the logo I made, it's similar to what we discussed Yeji right?

My final advert

After rattling my brains and rejecting many of the ideas it presented, we eventually agreed upon an advert.
I did the finishing touches yesterday and I hope it comes out alright and can fit in the CD
I made a short video and called it The Playground.
I think it fits in with our "Bye Buy Childhood" campaign.

Yeji, did you get my PowerPoint? It's a huge slide so i fear you might not have received it. :(

Industries taking advantage of minors

I think I should talk a little about my Vogue pictures.
I'll mention how the meaning of "dressing up" has evolved over the years.
I also want to mention how various industries take advantage of young children in order to gain attention and cause controversy.
A prime example would be the band Scorpions who released an album in 1976. The album was called Virgin Killer and the cover featured a completely nude 10 year old girl, Jaqueline. The girl is posing provocatively and her genitalia is subtly covered by imposed image of cracked glass. The cover caused quite a stir in many countries and was therefore banned in a number of nations.
For the bit about "dressing up" I'm gonna compare how children usually dress up to the Vogue Christmas issue. Nanzi :)

The adulteration of children in fasion

Here are some pictures from Witchery Kids new child clothing line. The way the children are "adultified" is quite subtle however there is a definite underlying "grown up" aura through out the campaign. Witchery Kids responded by saying that their line (designed for two- to nine-year-olds) is meant to be fun and playful, with "up to the minute adult trends styled for the smaller set," and that "the majority of feedback...regarding our campaign and product range has been very positive." I think that not only have the children been dressed to look like miniature adults they pose in model positions too...pouting, avoiding eye contact, looking board or lost and no smiling what so ever. It's easy to draw a parallel between this clothing campaign and the once in a Glamor magazine, the only difference is these are children. Since industrialization there has been this urgency put on children to grow up as fast as they can. what is worse is in every new generation the age of wanting to be more "grown up" is lowering. These children are between 6 and 9 years of age.

the two adverts for the group task

Okay i have edited the one photo that we downloaded off the internet and put the caption that we thought of together on it. The other picture is one that I took and I changed the caption that we thought of , instead of saying childhood I said entertainment. Is that ok? What do you think?

:D

Today, we will all gather together and finally put our research into one presentation!
I am very excited!

We still need to make 2 advertisements of our own and analyze one advertisement from any media.
I hope we will do some serious work today!

multimedia for our presentation

hello
I have done quite a lot of research and have found some very interesting multimedia clips that we can put into our power point presentation. The firts is a video clip (here's the link)
http://illegaladvertising.blogspot.com/2006/12/preview-children.html

This is about how children see what their perents do and they do the same. It has inspired me to focus one of my advertisments on this theme. It fascinates me how our older genertation has grown up as consumers and have passed a consumerist mindset on to us and the fact that we will do the same to our children.

Adverting is more serious and far-reaching than we actually realise. It dose not only affect us now but the true symptoms are clearly evident in our yonger generation, in fact this mindset becomes more entrenched as it is past down through genertaions with the constant reinforcement of this advertising.

The second meltimedia item we can put into our presentation is the Cat Steven song - 'Where do the children play?' It comments on how we have been affected by consumerism and makes us question how it is going to affect the generations to come.

http://tabs.ultimate-guitar.com/c/cat_stevens/where_do_the_children_play_crd.htm here's the link to the words of the song. We should play it to the class in our presentaion. Yeji, maybe you can play it on the electric piano and I on the giutar ( just an idea...the chords are on the website with the words of the song)

I will see you tomorrow!

Goodbye!

ADVERTISMENTS!

Here are some photos which I thought we can put in our powerpoint presentation :)

The more research I do, the more excitement yeji gets!
I got so many ideas in my head right now.

Don't forget, Nanzi and Jessica, that you are coming to my house on tuesday!
Please be prepared so that we can put our research together and start working on our advertisements.

Yeji

:)

Just to clarify everything, I have asked Ms Orpen few questions today.

Somebody mentioned that our advertisements don't have to be done by first day of next term, however, Ms Orpen said that they actually are due for the first day of next term and they have to be saved in the CD with our powerpoint presentation.

After spending many hours researching about children and advertisements, I have finalized what I am going to do my oral on. I am going to compare the advertisements in the past with current advertisements (Nanzi has some old magazines at home.) I found the contrast between advertisements from two different time period very interesting. On the other hand, it made me feel sad to see how children are portrayed as sexual icons nowadays.

The second topic I will focus on is Bratz dolls. I will link this topic from my previous topic (how children are being sexualized in the advertisements) and talk about how small toys, such as Bratz dolls and Barbies, can influence children. After this topic, Nanzi will carry on with her topic which is closely related to mine.

I must say that I am really looking forward to this oral and I hope that our research will be worthwhile.
